Captain Ronald Harrell USN

 

Captain Ronald Harrell, from Jacksonville, Florida, graduated from Jacksonville University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography; he received his commission through the NROTC program at JU.  He holds a Master of Public Administration from Shippensburg University, Shippensburg Pennsylvania and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U. S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.  He completed a graduate Public Financial Management program from Penn State and is professionally coded in Financial Management.     

 

His initial sea tour following Surface Warfare School was Boilers and Repair Division Officer on USS Independence (CV-62), upon completion of this tour he transferred to the Special Operations Community.  After successful completion of Navy Diving and Salvage training, he was assigned as Chief Engineer on USS Grapple (ARS-53).  He was then assigned as the Diving and Craft Officer at the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, in Panama City, Florida.  His next sea tour was as the Executive Officer on USS Grasp (ARS–51), during this tour he lateral transferred to the FTS community.  Following the XO tour he was assigned as the Commanding Officer of the Naval Reserve Center, Asheville North Carolina.  From May 1997 to April 1999, Captain Harrell was the Commanding Officer of USS Grasp (ARS-51). 

 

Captain Harrell's additional shore assignments were at the Naval Ammunition Logistics Center, Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania, Surface Munitions Officer and Program Manager for DOD Transportation of all conventional ordnances in CONUS.  He was then assigned as a student at the US Army War College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania upon graduation he was assigned to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy Manpower and Reserve Affairs, as the Special Operations and Financial Compensation Analyst for Military Programs.  His most recent assignment was the Assistant Chief of Staff for the Reserve Component US Naval Forces Korea.   

 

Captain Harrell has led or participated in numerous deployments, salvage operations, aircraft recoveries and tows.  Captain Harrell's decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (4 gold stars), Navy Commendation Medal (3 gold stars), Navy Achievement Medal (4 gold stars) as well as various other unit and service medals.

 

Captain Harrell's served as Region Mid Atlantic Reserve Component Commander from February 2006 to until December 2007.  His current assignment is Deputy Commander of FFG CLASS Squadron in Mayport Florida. 

 

Captain Harrell is married to the former Maria Bisginai from Scranton, Pennsylvania.  They have two daughters, Morgan and MaCayla.
