Stephen E. Thompson

Family and Veteran Liaison

Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command

 

Mr. Thompson assumed the duties of the Family and Veteran Liaison, Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) in August 2006.  He served as the Senior Korean War Analyst from July 2000 to August 2006, first with the Central Identification Laboratory – Hawaii and then with JPAC.  From July 1989 to January 1999, Mr. Thompson served as a team analyst and linguist, investigation team leader, and operations chief with the Joint Casualty Resolution Center (JCRC) and then with the Joint Task Force – Full Accounting (JTF-FA).  His search for missing U.S. servicemen has taken him to Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, China, and both North and South Korea.

 

Mr. Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Diplomacy and Military Studies from Hawaii Pacific University.  He is a two-time graduate of the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California where he studied the Korean and Vietnamese languages.  He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree with Hawaii Pacific University.

 

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Thompson retired from the United States Army in 2000 after nearly 23-years of active duty service.  He, his wife, and their son make their home on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
